UFC 333 results: Volkanovski stops Evloev, Yan beats Dvalishvili again
Both champions kept their belts in Abu Dhabi: Alexander Volkanovski handed Movsar Evloev his first loss in round two, Petr Yan outpointed Merab Dvalishvili in their trilogy.
Two title fights, two champions still in place. At UFC 333 on October 24 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Alexander Volkanovski kept the featherweight belt and Petr Yan kept the bantamweight belt.
Volkanovski ends Evloev's unbeaten run
Movsar Evloev did what he does best in the first round and took Volkanovski down three times, but the champion got back to his feet each time. In the second round an uppercut and a straight left hurt Evloev, he went to the mat and Volkanovski followed with ground and pound until referee Mark Goddard stepped in at 4:54 of round two. Evloev, who came in at 20-0, suffered the first loss of his career. Volkanovski is now 29-4. According to The National, it was his ninth win in featherweight title fights, one more than Jose Aldo.
Yan wins the trilogy
Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili went the full 25 minutes. Dvalishvili kept chasing takedowns, Yan kept stopping them, and a kick to the body in the third round shifted the fight his way. All three judges scored it 48-47 for Yan. He took the title from Dvalishvili at UFC 323 last December and has now beaten him twice in a row. Yan is 21-5, Dvalishvili 21-6.
Rest of the main card
Lone'er Kavanagh stopped Ramazan Temirov in the first round: an uppercut, a flurry and left hands on the ground. Alexander Volkov beat Rizvan Kuniev on the cards and asked Dana White again for a heavyweight title shot; the belt is on the line next at UFC 334 on November 14, when Ciryl Gane meets Josh Hokit. Aaron Pico needed 74 seconds against Losene Keita.
