UFC lightweight Michael Chandler is heading to WWE NXT. NXT general manager Robert Stone confirmed on X late on Friday, October 30, that it is "set in stone" that Chandler will serve as the special guest enforcer for the unsanctioned match between Dion Lennox and Cruz Montana on the Wednesday, November 4 episode of NXT, according to MMA News and F4W/Wrestling Observer.

Chandler accepted straight away, replying: "It's set in stone!!!! Not a better man for the job...no one is more unsanctioned than me." Bloody Elbow described it as his debut WWE appearance following prior contract talks.

How the booking came together

The idea came from Chandler himself. In an Instagram video posted on October 30 and captioned "No one more unsanctioned than me. @mrstonewwe your call," the former Bellator lightweight champion spoke directly to Stone. He argued that the general manager wants the Lennox vs Montana feud finished without taking responsibility for what happens, and said that if Stone needs someone to "keep a little order," the job calls for someone fluent in "the language of chaos."

Stone's first response was "Your making this too easy for me @MikeChandlerMMA," before he made the role official later that day. According to MMA News, it is an enforcer spot rather than an in-ring match for Chandler.

Not his first brush with WWE

The crossover is an easy one to book, with both the UFC and WWE operating under the TKO umbrella. Chandler appeared on WWE Raw in 2024, when he used the platform to call out Conor McGregor, and he has spoken openly about wanting to cross over into WWE someday. F4W reported that he visited the WWE Performance Center this summer and worked out in the ring.

Where his MMA career stands

The timing has drawn attention because of Chandler's recent results in the Octagon. The 40-year-old has not competed since Mauricio Ruffy stopped him by TKO at 4:29 of the first round at UFC Freedom 250 on the White House South Lawn on June 14. According to MMA News, it was his fourth straight loss and sixth in seven fights, leaving him 2-6 in the UFC and 23-11 overall.

The long-discussed fight with Conor McGregor never materialised, and Chandler has not announced his next UFC bout. Nothing reported so far suggests the NXT appearance means he is leaving MMA; it is booked as a one-night role.

What else is on the November 4 NXT

NXT moves from its usual Tuesday slot to Wednesday that week to avoid U.S. midterm election coverage, which puts it head-to-head with the Blood & Guts edition of AEW Dynamite. The announced lineup includes:

  • Unsanctioned match: Dion Lennox vs Cruz Montana, with Michael Chandler as special guest enforcer
  • Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic final: Noam Dar and Romeo Moreno vs Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, with Cody Rhodes presenting the trophy
  • An appearance by John Cena
