IBF orders Osleys Iglesias to defend against Malik Zinad at super middleweight
Mike Coppinger of The Ring reports the IBF ordered Osleys Iglesias to defend his super middleweight title against Malik Zinad, with sides given until Dec. 2 to deal before purse bids. No date or venue announced.

The IBF has ordered Osleys Iglesias to defend his super middleweight title against Malik Zinad, according to Mike Coppinger of The Ring, who reported on November 5, 2026 that The Ring obtained an IBF letter directing the matchup. In a follow-up reply the same day, Coppinger added that the sides have until December 2 to strike a deal before purse bids are ordered, and noted that Iglesias is coming off a seventh-round TKO of Oliver Zaren last month. Coppinger's original post on X was amplified by The Ring's official account and by Iglesias's promoter Camille Estephan. No date, venue, or signed contract has been announced — the fight is ordered and under a negotiation window, not yet a fully made card.
What Coppinger and The Ring reported
"The IBF has ordered Osleys Iglesias to defend his super middleweight title vs. Malik Zinad, per a letter obtained by @ringmagazine," Coppinger wrote. He added that Iglesias is The Ring's No. 2-rated fighter at 168 pounds and noted that a fight with Canelo Alvarez would crown a new Ring Magazine champion. That Canelo remark was Coppinger's ranking context, not an IBF order pairing Alvarez into this bout.
Minutes later, Coppinger clarified the mandatory timeline in a reply: "The sides have until Dec. 2 to strike a deal before purse bids are ordered. Iglesias is coming off a TKO-7 over Oliver Zaren last month." That December 2 deadline replaces earlier coverage that said no purse-bid window had been stated publicly.
As of this writing there is no separate Ring Magazine web article live on the order; the primary public sources remain Coppinger's report citing the letter Ring obtained and his Dec. 2 follow-up.
Iglesias's title run
Iglesias, a Cuban southpaw promoted by Eye of the Tiger Management, won the vacant IBF super middleweight belt by stopping Pavel Silyagin in eight rounds on April 9, 2026, coverage The Ring published at the time. In his first defense on October 8, 2026 at Capitole de Quebec in Quebec City, he dropped Oliver Zaren twice and stopped him in the seventh round, improving to 16-0 with 15 knockouts per The Ring's report — the same TKO-7 Coppinger cited in the purse-bid reply. The Ring rates him No. 2 at 168.
Who is Malik Zinad
Zinad, a Libyan fighter nicknamed "The Trigger," has moved into the super middleweight division and is listed No. 4 by the IBF at 168 in rankings published by BoxingScene (updated around late October 2026) and reflected on box-rank listings for September–October 2026. BoxingScene's fighter page lists him 24-1 with 18 knockouts (25 professional bouts), matching Wikipedia's record summary.
His lone defeat came in his only prior world-title challenge: a sixth-round TKO loss to Dmitry Bivol on June 1, 2024 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, when Bivol retained the WBA (Super) and IBO light heavyweight titles — the same defeat Coppinger cited as Zinad's only title-fight setback.
What is ordered — and what is not
An IBF order starts the mandatory process between champion and designated contender. Per Coppinger's follow-up, the camps now have until December 2, 2026 to negotiate a deal; if they do not, purse bids are to be ordered. A site, a fight date, and a signed contract still have not been announced. Do not treat the order as a completed, dated card announcement.
Canelo Alvarez recently regained the WBC super middleweight title by beating Christian Mbilli on October 31 in Riyadh — a result already covered separately. Coppinger's note that a Canelo fight would create a new Ring champion does not mean Alvarez has been ordered into Iglesias–Zinad.
Further confirmation from the IBF, the camps, or a full Ring Magazine write-up would clarify venue and date. Until then, the verified developments are the mandatory order itself and the December 2 negotiation / purse-bid window, both attributed to Coppinger and The Ring's obtained letter.
